Méribel marks the arrival of winter with a festive programme that sets the tone for the entire season. The town centre comes alive over Christmas with concerts, parades and a traditional Christmas market, while Father Christmas makes appearances on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of December. On both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the ESF ski school leads torchlit descents down the mountain slopes, accompanied by fireworks, creating an atmosphere that is as theatrical as it is memorable.
Throughout the winter months, Méribel distinguishes itself as a resort with genuine cultural depth. Comedy enthusiasts are drawn to the Franglish Comedy Festival, a bilingual event uniting French and English-speaking performers at the Méribel auditorium across five days from 27th to 31st January. Come March, the Riders Film Festival showcases a curated selection of ski and snowboard films from local and international filmmakers, judged by industry professionals and offering a compelling portrait of mountain life. Méribel has also cemented its reputation as a world-class sporting venue, having hosted the Ski World Cup in 2022 and the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2023. The end of the ski season is celebrated with the Enduro des 3 Vallées, one of the largest gatherings of skiers in the Three Valleys. In 2023, the Tour de France passed through Méribel, tackling the formidable Col de la Loze, one of the most demanding climbs in the competition's history.
As winter gives way to spring, Méribel embraces a quieter, restorative mood with the Zen Altitude Fortnight. Set beside the pristine Lac Tueda nature reserve, this wellness event offers relaxation sessions and rejuvenating activities framed by some of the most spectacular Alpine scenery in the French Alps, making it a fitting and contemplative close to the mountain year.
